Section 3: Planning the excavation work – Australia Model Code of Practice: Excavation Work

Australia Model Code of Practice: Excavation Work 3.4c: 3.4 Obtain and review the asbestos register (WHS Regulations 426, 448 to 450)

Before starting demolition or refurbishment, the PCBU carrying it out must obtain the workplace's asbestos register from whoever manages or controls the workplace. That person must review and, where necessary, revise the register whenever asbestos is removed, disturbed, sealed or enclosed; review it before demolition or refurbishment and revise it if it is inadequate for the planned work; and give the PCBU doing the work a copy before it starts. If there is no register, the person doing the demolition must not start until a competent person has inspected the structure or plant to determine whether asbestos or ACM is present, and if it is found or assumed, must tell the occupier and owner of domestic premises, or in any other case whoever manages or controls the workplace.
