The person who commissions construction work must consult, as far as reasonably practicable, with whoever designed the structure or any part of it on how risks can be eliminated and controlled. A commissioning person who did not also commission the design must make all reasonable efforts to get hold of the designer's safety report. Where a principal contractor has been engaged, the commissioning person must give it the information they hold about the hazards and risks of the work.
