Australia Life Insurance Code of Practice (CALI Life Code) 2.7-2.9: Review medical definitions every three years and assess claims against current medical practice

What does 2.7-2.9 require?

For on-sale policies paying on defined medical events, the insurer reviews all medical definitions at least every three years with relevant specialists, updates any that depend on a diagnostic or treatment method no longer used, and tells customers when it does. Where a customer's policy still contains an obsolete definition, the claim is assessed, including the required severity, using a current method approved for use in Australia. Group policies are excluded.
