Australia Life Insurance Code of Practice (CALI Life Code) 2.27-2.28: Rules for verbal and face-to-face direct sales

What does 2.27-2.28 require?

For direct sales made verbally or face to face the sales rules require the salesperson to check periodically that the customer understands, allow time for questions, give information to help choose the amount of cover, explain with an example that premiums may change, announce at the start of the application that the customer is now applying and obtain explicit agreement to proceed, refrain from selling or taking payment details when the customer asks for time to think (offering a later call instead), and never exploit vulnerable customers. Where the customer is ineligible and a different policy is offered, its details and disclosure statement are provided with an offer of a later discussion.
