Australia Life Insurance Code of Practice (CALI Life Code) 2.29-2.31: Funeral insurance explained in plain language, premium structures and first-premium notice

What does 2.29-2.31 require?

A funeral policy is explained plainly: that it is insurance, not savings; the benefits and how beneficiaries claim; pre-existing condition exclusions; any accident-only period; the right to cancel and what happens after cooling-off, including any refund; level and stepped premiums with an illustration of stepped increases; that total premiums could exceed benefits; and what happens if premiums stop. Buyers are told they can choose level or stepped premiums where offered, with an affordability warning for retirement or aged care and the consequence of letting the policy lapse. Where little or no premium is paid at first, the customer is told the first full premium in advance, given ten to twenty business days' notice before it is collected, and receives a cooling-off period from the first full payment.
