Wherever reasonably practicable, overtime must be arranged so a non-shiftworker gets a break of at least 10 consecutive hours between work on successive days. Where overtime leaves a non-casual employee without 10 consecutive hours off, they must be released after the overtime until they have had 10 hours off, without losing pay for ordinary time in that absence. If the employer instructs them to resume or continue without that break, they are paid the relevant overtime rate until released, and are then entitled to 10 hours off without loss of ordinary pay. For shiftworkers the required break is 8 consecutive hours, with the same release and payment rules.
