An employee on an afternoon or night shift is paid 115% of their ordinary hourly rate for that shift. Where afternoon or night shifts do not continue across 5 or more successive afternoons or nights, permanent staff receive 150% for 2 hours then 200%, and casuals 187.5% for 2 hours then 250%. Permanent night shift status arises where, during an engagement on shift, they work only nights, stay on nights for more than 4 consecutive weeks, or work nights that do not rotate with other shifts or day work so as to give at least one third of their time off nights in each cycle; such an employee is paid 130% of the ordinary hourly rate for every ordinary hour worked on nights.
