Employees who are not shiftworkers get an unpaid meal break of 30 minutes or more after each 6 hours worked; shiftworkers get a paid 20-minute meal break every shift. The employer decides when meal breaks are taken, but an employee who is not a shiftworker must not be made to work over 6 hours without a meal break, and where possible the break should fall near the midpoint of the shift or duty period.
