Home care medical installations follow AS/NZS 3003. Alterations to existing installations need the RCD protection required for the installation type, and in existing homes RCDs for added outlets, equipment or lighting points are fitted where the final subcircuit starts; replacing all protection on a switchboard brings RCD protection to all its final subcircuits. Repairs need no RCD: like-for-like replacement of an unprotected outlet, luminaire or item in the same place, a single outlet swapped for a multiple, or an unswitched outlet at an existing lighting point in a roof space or above 3 m for a replacement luminaire.
