Isolating devices isolate all active conductors and, where switches, can be secured open; neutrals are disconnected after and reconnected before actives. Every installation has main switches that are manually operated, single-action mechanical devices (touch screens and programmable systems may only give remote control and cannot override), located and identified, with alternative or supplementary supply main switches labelled with their source; plus additional isolating switches, emergency switching (an isolating device where shock risk exists, with manual reset where danger could follow), shutdown for mechanical maintenance and functional switching.
