Switchboards are placed so access is not obstructed, with at least 1.0 m clear from every face needing access (0.6 m in domestic installations) and 0.6 m clear with doors open and switchgear racked out, and exit paths away in an emergency. Switchroom doors open outward without a key from the inside (except domestic); boards of 800 A or more per phase or longer than 3.0 m need two well-separated exits from the room unless 3.0 m clear space is in front, and doorways at least 2.0 m high and 0.9 m wide (except like-for-like replacement); switchboard doors opening into passageways can be held open.
