RCDs are fixed-setting devices to AS/NZS 3190, 61008.1, 61009.1 or IEC 62423, chosen for the fault current waveform (Type A recommended as the general type). In Australia RCDs must interrupt at least all actives, and those beside or within a socket-outlet interrupt active and neutral; RCDs must trip for residual sinusoidal a.c. and pulsating d.c. (Type A): 24 months after Amendment 2 (April 2021), Type AC RCDs may no longer be installed, subject to regulators' implementation dates.
