World Bank Group General EHS Guidelines 2.5: 2.5 Biological hazards

Work processes, engineering and administrative controls are designed, maintained and operated to avoid or minimise release of biological agents into the working environment, and to keep the number of employees exposed to a minimum. Biological agents are classified into four groups by their disease potential and risk of spreading to the community, with controls scaled up through the groups, designed with local health authorities and to recognised international standards. The employer reviews and assesses the known and suspected presence of biological agents at the workplace and implements safety measures, monitoring, training and verification of training, with measures to eliminate or reduce exposure.
