Employers and supervisors take all reasonable precautions, applying controls in order of priority: eliminate the hazard, control it at source by engineering, minimise it through safe work systems and administrative controls, and then provide trained, maintained PPE; contractors are chosen for their OHS capability through formal procurement agreements. Workplaces are designed and equipped to protect occupational health and safety. Hazard analyses identify and rank worker scenarios by likelihood and consequence and drive an action plan. Structures and surfaces are safe and easy to clean, severe weather and facility shutdown are planned for, workspace and exits are adequate, fire precautions include detectors, alarms, extinguishing equipment and prevention measures, lavatories, showers, drinking water and a clean eating area are provided, lighting, safe access, protection at openings and from falling items, and unauthorised access controls are in place, qualified first aid is available at all times with accessible stations and eye-wash and emergency showers near hazards, and air supply and temperature are suitable. Facilities consider the needs of disabled persons.
