After Class A or Class B removal work is completed, and before the removal area is re-occupied, the commissioning person must get an independent person to issue a clearance certificate. The certificate must state that the independent inspection found no visible asbestos residue from the work in the removal area or around it and, where monitoring was required under r 292 or r 294, that the fibre level in the removal area is below 0.01 f/ml. No certificate is needed where the only work done was taking out non-friable asbestos-containing material totalling 10 square metres or less. Penalty: 100 penalty units (natural person) or 500 penalty units (body corporate).
