Whoever manages or controls a workplace must remove the exposure of people there to airborne asbestos fibres as far as reasonably practicable, and where that cannot be done must cut the exposure as far as reasonably practicable. In every case nobody at the workplace may breathe an atmospheric fibre concentration above the asbestos exposure standard (0.1 f/ml, 8 hour TWA). If there are reasonable grounds to doubt whether the standard has been exceeded, the controller must arrange for a measurement of employee exposure. Copies of atmospheric monitoring results must be kept readily available to any employer at the workplace. Act compliance: ss 21 and 26 (r 7).
