An employer or self-employed individual must not use, or cause the use of, compressed air or other compressed gas on asbestos unless the area is enclosed so fibres cannot escape from it. Compressed air or gas also must not be used within 6 metres of an asbestos activity unless its use keeps airborne fibres at or below half the asbestos exposure standard, and respiratory protective equipment may not be relied on to achieve that.
