UK HM Treasury Sustainability Reporting Guidance 2026-27 (FReM) 5.13-5.16: Nature recovery and biodiversity: where the body holds significant natural capital or landholdings, signpost the Natural Capital Plan or Nature Recovery Plan and report performance against it in the annual report, and report biodiversity considerations in projects and programmes where material

What does 5.13-5.16 require?

When making policy, Ministers must give due regard to the environmental principles policy statement under the Environment Act, and a natural capital approach prices the natural environment for what it gives people and the economy. Whether nature recovery information is material to primary users depends on the body; for one that holds significant natural capital or land it very likely is, and nature and biodiversity performance information then supports accountability. Such a body shall point readers to its Natural Capital Plan or Nature Recovery Plan and report its performance against that plan in the annual report and accounts. Biodiversity considerations arising in projects and programmes should be reported where material, and Defra's Biodiversity Net Gain guidance can help shape the disclosure.
