After inspecting and testing a fire alarm system the licensee completes an inspection/test label and fixes it inside or outside the panel cover or in a permanent location; the signature certifies that the inspection and tests comply with the adopted standards. Service or maintenance done in the course of the inspection also gets a service label. On a new installation the inspection/test label is applied only after the local authority has accepted the system. Non-compliance with the standards adopted at installation, a fault or an impairment found during inspection is notified to the owner or representative and the local authority, with the appropriate yellow or red label added, and the authority is told when it is corrected. The labels stay for at least five years, after which only a licensed employee or agent of a registered firm may take them off (regulators may clear excess labels whenever they choose); they are blue with black lettering, about three inches square, removable adhesive layered over the previous label, and carry the do-not-remove inscription and the words INSPECTION/TEST RECORD in capitals of at least 10-point bold type, the firm's name, address, telephone number and certificate number, the inspection date with the licensee's handwritten signature and licence number, the inspection type (new installation, semi-annual, quarterly or annual), the last sensitivity test date if known, and the resulting status (acceptable, yellow label or red label attached).
