Whenever a fire alarm system or single-station detector is installed, modified or extended anywhere other than a one- or two-family home, the licensee completes the state fire marshal's installation certificate in place of the adopted standard's installation form unless the local authority requires otherwise. The certificate goes to the owner or representative, or is posted by the main control panel, identifies the applicable standards and certifies compliance, and where a variance is permitted under section 34.616(b)(4) names the variance and its authority. The original stays at the site, one copy is kept by the certifying company for the life of the system or ten years, whichever is first, for the State Fire Marshal's Office, and one copy goes to the local authority having jurisdiction within ten days of completion.
