Subchapter F: fire alarm rules (34.601 to 34.630) – Texas State Fire Marshal Rules (28 TAC Chapter 34, Subchapters C, E, F and G)

Texas State Fire Marshal Rules (28 TAC Chapter 34, Subchapters C, E, F and G) 34.616: Sales, installation and service: supervised exempt staff for single-station residential alarms, licensed on-site supervision, certifier present at acceptance, cross-licensing and the adopted standards

Staff exempt from licensing under Insurance Code section 6002.155(10) may sell, install and service single-station residential alarms for a registered firm only when supervised by a residential superintendent (single station), a residential superintendent or a planning superintendent, and the firm keeps lesson plans and yearly test results proving those staff understand the statute, the adopted standards and the single-station rules. Every other detection or alarm installation, monitoring equipment included, is carried out by, or under the direct on-site supervision of, a licensed fire alarm technician, residential technician, residential superintendent or planning superintendent acting within their licence; the planner is licensed under the ACR number of the firm responsible for planning, the certifying licensee is licensed under the installing firm's ACR number and attends the final acceptance test, and planning and installing firms may differ. Maintenance and service need the same direct on-site licensed supervision, and only a licensee working under the primary firm's ACR number may attach a label. Work that also touches a sprinkler or extinguisher system must satisfy Insurance Code chapters 6003 and 6001. All planning, installation and service follow the adopted standards or an edition previously adopted by the local political subdivision, and like-for-like equipment replacement approved by a planning superintendent is treated as service under the conditions the section states.
