The contractor must give the owner a written copy of each variation before the earlier of 5 business days after agreement and the start of the varied work (urgent work excepted where impracticable), and must not start varied work before the owner agrees in writing (20 penalty units each). The variation document must be legible and describe the variation, the date requested, the estimated delay if any, the price change or how it is calculated, and when an increase is paid or a decrease credited (20 penalty units); an increase cannot be required to be paid before the varied work starts.
