Overhead and gantry cranes permanently installed in a facility (semigantry, cantilever gantry, wall and storage bridge types and similar) used in construction are governed by general industry 1910.179, except 1910.179(b)(1), and not by Subpart CC. Overhead and gantry equipment that is not a permanent facility installation (overhead/bridge, semigantry, cantilever gantry, wall, storage bridge and launching gantry cranes and similar equipment, however it travels) is covered by Subpart CC sections 1926.1400 through 1926.1414 and 1926.1417 through 1926.1425, paragraph (d) of 1926.1426, sections 1926.1427 through 1926.1434, plus 1926.1441, 1926.1437 and 1926.1439. It is also covered by selected parts of 1910.179 (paragraphs (g), (k) and (n), together with (b)(5) to (7), (e)(1), (e)(3), (e)(5), (e)(6), (f)(1), (f)(4), (h)(1) and (h)(3)), by the 1910.179(a) definitions except hoist and load (which take the 1926.1401 meanings), and by 1910.179(b)(2) only for equipment made before September 19, 2001. Equipment made on or after September 19, 2001 must meet listed sections of ASME B30.2-2005, including 2-3.5 with 29 CFR 1910.147 substituted for ANSI Z244.1 in 2-3.5.1(b).
