Subpart CC: Cranes and Derricks in Construction – OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926)

OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.1405: 1926.1405 Disassembly, additional requirements for dismantling of booms and jibs (applies to both the use of manufacturer procedures and employer procedures)

Extra rules for taking down booms and jibs, including dismantling done only to change their length, whether manufacturer or employer procedures are being followed. Pins in the pendants must not be pulled, even partly, while the pendants are under tension. While pendants are in tension, no top or bottom pins may be pulled from boom sections located from the pendant attachment points back to the crane or derrick body. When the uppermost boom section is resting on the ground or another support and carrying the boom, none of the top or bottom pins in sections between that uppermost section and the body may be removed. On the cantilevered portion being taken off (the part ahead of the pendant attachment points), top pins must stay in place until that cantilevered section is fully supported. These sequence rules apply on top of the general A/D requirements in 1926.1404.
