Subpart CC: Cranes and Derricks in Construction – OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926)

OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.1420: 1926.1420 Signals, radio, telephone or other electronic transmission of signals

Where signals are passed by radio, telephone or other electronic means, the devices must be tested on site before operations begin to confirm the transmission is effective, clear and reliable. Transmission must run over a dedicated channel, with two exceptions: a dedicated channel may be shared by several cranes or derricks and their signal persons for coordination, and a crane working on or next to railroad tracks may share communications where its operator must coordinate with trains or other equipment moving on that track or a neighbouring one. The operator must receive signals through a hands-free system.
