Covers equipment moving on a construction site under or near a power line without a load; travel with a load falls under whichever of 1926.1408, 1926.1409 and 1926.1410 fits, together with 1926.1417(u). The employer must make sure the boom or mast and its support system are lowered enough to meet the section, the Table T clearances are kept, and the way speed and terrain affect how the equipment and boom move are taken into account so the clearances are not breached. If any part of the equipment will come within 20 feet of the line during travel, a dedicated spotter in continuous contact with the driver or operator must be used, positioned to judge the clearance, using communication equipment where necessary and giving timely information. At night or in poor visibility, the lines must also be lit or located by some other means, and a safe travel path must be identified and followed. Table T clearances while travelling with no load: up to 0.75 kV, 4 feet; over 0.75 to 50 kV, 6 feet; over 50 to 345 kV, 10 feet; over 345 to 750 kV, 16 feet; over 750 to 1,000 kV, 20 feet; over 1,000 kV, as set by the utility or a registered professional engineer qualified in power transmission and distribution.
