Medical gas technician work may be done only by a qualified supervisor or a tradesperson certificate holder authorised to do it under supervision, working under a qualified supervisor's supervision and directions; an apprentice or trainee only with a qualified supervisor present at all times and available. Supervisors must give adequate directions, personally ensure the work is correct and, for apprentices and trainees, be present and normally require detailed progress reports. Registered medical practitioners and nurses commissioning, testing, verifying or witnessing a medical gas installation in their role are exempt. Maximum penalty 1,000 penalty units for a corporation and 200 otherwise.
