Medical gasfitting work may be done only by a qualified supervisor or a tradesperson certificate holder authorised to do it under supervision, working under a qualified supervisor's supervision and directions; an apprentice or trainee only with a qualified supervisor present at all times and available. Supervisors must give adequate directions, personally ensure correct work and, for apprentices and trainees, be present and normally require detailed progress reports. Holders endorsed for mechanical services and medical gas work (or under immediate supervision of such a holder) may do medical gasfitting that is also that work. Registered medical practitioners and nurses commissioning, testing, verifying or witnessing installations are exempt. Maximum penalty 1,000 penalty units for a corporation and 200 otherwise.
