NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 13.33-13.61: Lightning protection to BS EN 62305 and surge protection devices

Lightning protection should follow the risk assessment and design rules of BS EN 62305 with components to BS EN 62561 and lightning equipotential bonding. Surge protective devices should be fitted to all metallic services entering or passing between buildings in line with the lightning protection zone concept, have a low let-through voltage across all conductor pairs, not disrupt normal operation, survive repeated pulses, and on mains power systems give an indicated pre-failure warning rather than failing short-circuit; installation leads should be kept short.
