Equipment must be rated for the fault current that can flow at its terminals; the system needs capacity calculated under Parts I to IV of Article 220 or another approved method, enough for rapid load changes and transient demands of expected loads. The alternate source may also feed optional standby loads if it has the capacity or load management (automatic selective pickup and shedding) secures the legally required standby circuits.
