NFPA 70 National Electrical Code 2023 Article 700 Emergency Systems 700.12: 700.12 General requirements for sources of power

On failure of the normal supply, emergency lighting and power must be available within the time the application needs and never more than 10 seconds, from one or more of the recognised source types; in choosing the source, the occupancy and whether service is short or long duration are considered (2026: 700.12, with equipment sources described in (B) to (G)).
