The governing body should make sure the organization safeguards, and where needed repairs, the systems it relies on. It should weigh and manage the risk that its decisions pose to natural environmental, social and economic systems (6.9), consulting and involving the relevant stakeholders (6.6), and should make clear how its decisions affect, over time, both the things the organization relies on directly and those it does not rely on but whose sustainability its choices influence. It should also make sure that what is reported and disclosed about the value generation model (6.2 and 6.5) gives a joined-up picture of how the model connects with the systems it relies on and influences, of the risks those systems and the governing body's own decisions create for the organization and its model, and of the risks the organization, its model and the governing body's decisions create for those systems.
