Post-closure care for each unit subject to 264.117 to 264.120 begins when the unit's closure is complete and continues for 30 years, comprising at least monitoring, reporting, and maintenance and monitoring of waste containment systems under Subparts F, K, L, M, N and X; the Regional Administrator may shorten the period (once all disposal units are closed and the site is shown secure) or extend it (where monitoring shows potential harmful migration) by permit modification. Security under 264.14 may be required to continue where wastes remain exposed or public or livestock access could be hazardous. Post-closure use of the property must never disturb the final cover, liners or other containment components or the monitoring systems unless the Regional Administrator finds the disturbance necessary for the proposed use without increasing the hazard, or necessary to reduce a threat. All post-closure care must follow the approved post-closure plan.
