Packages of lithium cells or batteries prepared under special provision 188 carry the lithium battery mark showing the applicable UN number (UN 3090 or UN 3480 for cells and batteries alone, UN 3091 or UN 3481 when contained in or packed with equipment, and all applicable numbers where mixed). The mark is a rectangle or square with 5 mm red hatched edging, at least 100 mm by 100 mm (reducible to 100 mm by 70 mm), with the battery symbol in black on white or a contrasting background. The mark shown in the previous edition may be used until the end of the transition period stated in the Code.
