Australian Dangerous Goods Code Edition 7.8 (Consignor and Transport Duties)
Consignment: overpacks, empty packagings, marking and labelling (Chapters 5.1 and 5.2) – Australian Dangerous Goods Code Edition 7.8 (Consignor and Transport Duties)

Australian Dangerous Goods Code Edition 7.8 (Consignor and Transport Duties) 5.1.2: Overpacks: visible marks and labels or repeat them, no incompatible goods, secured packages, orientation and strength

What does 5.1.2 require?

Unless the marks and labels of every item inside are visible, an overpack must repeat the shipping name, the UN number and the other marks required and labels for each item (the word OVERPACK is optional for domestic road and rail but required for sea legs); an overpack holding only limited quantity items may carry the limited quantity mark. Each package inside must itself comply and its function must not be impaired; incompatible goods may not share an overpack except as limited quantities; packages are wrapped, strapped or otherwise secured against damage; packages bearing orientation arrows are oriented accordingly; and the overpack must withstand repeated handling, support any intended stacking, resist moisture, temperature, sunlight and minor leaks, and be liftable by fork lift with lifting points marked where not obvious.
