Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition
Standard 1: Clinical Governance – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 1.23-1.26: Scope of clinical practice is defined, monitored and reviewed, clinicians are credentialed where relevant with the process monitored and improved, safety and quality roles are assigned and supported including for locums and agency staff, and clinicians are supervised with after-hours advice available

Each clinician's permitted range of practice must be set against what the organisation can safely support and its service plan, checked in operation, and re-examined periodically and whenever a service, procedure or technology is added or changed materially. Credentialing must happen where it applies and its own effectiveness must be tracked. Staff must be helped to understand and carry out their safety roles, which must be assigned explicitly, locums and agency staff included. Supervision must let clinicians work safely, with after-hours advice reachable where needed.
