Standard 1: Clinical Governance – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 1.07-1.09: Policies, procedures and protocols are managed through a risk-based system with compliance monitoring, organisation-wide quality improvement systems measure and improve performance with consumers and workforce involved, and timely safety and quality reports reach the board, workforce, consumers and partner services

Policy documents are to be controlled on a risk basis: written, kept current, checked for effectiveness, with adherence monitored and lifted and with legal and jurisdictional obligations reviewed. Organisation-wide improvement machinery must pick the measures, track and publish results, spot weak areas, run and monitor fixes, and bring consumers and staff into the review of performance. Boards, staff, consumers, the local community and partner services must all receive timely reports on how the safety systems are performing.
