Standard 1: Clinical Governance – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 1.13-1.14: Feedback from patients, carers, families and the workforce is sought regularly and used to improve, and an organisation-wide complaints management system encourages complaints, involves workforce and consumers in review, resolves them promptly, feeds back analyses and informs improvement and the risk register

Patients, carers and families must be asked regularly about their experience and outcomes, staff must be asked how well they understand and use the safety systems, and both streams must feed improvement. A single complaints system must cover the organisation: it must invite and support complaints from patients, families and staff, bring staff and consumers into reviews, settle complaints promptly, feed analysis back to the board, staff and consumers, use it to improve, lodge resulting risks on the register, and be reviewed itself.
