Standard 1: Clinical Governance – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 1.03-1.06: The organisation maintains a clinical governance framework that drives improvement, implements strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, weighs safety and quality in business decisions, and clinical leaders support clinicians to perform their safety and quality roles

A documented governance framework must exist, be kept current and actually be worked through to lift safety performance. Strategies serving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients must be put into practice and tracked. Decisions about buildings, equipment, purchasing, staffing and maintenance must weigh their consequences for patient safety. Senior clinicians are expected to help colleagues grasp their delegated safety duties and to work inside the framework rather than around it.
