Australia Model Code of Practice: Construction Work K-fac: Appendix J and K: Provide and maintain adequate, accessible facilities (r 41)

Having regard to the nature of the work and hazards, the size, location and nature of the workplace and the number and composition of workers, and after consulting affected workers, the PCBU must ensure so far as reasonably practicable adequate toilets, drinking water, washing and eating facilities, maintained in good order and clean, safe and accessible (r 41). Guidance: facilities located safely and conveniently, protected from flooding, lit, ventilated, private and lockable; hygienic, weatherproof eating and shelter areas as early as possible (vehicles only until an area is available); toilets clean, weatherproof, lit, ventilated, lockable, with seat, lid, paper and sanitary disposal, portable toilets serviced at least monthly; ratios of at least one pan per 15 male workers, one urinal per 20 male workers (none for fewer than 10) and one pan per 10 female workers, or the National Construction Code ratios within buildings; unisex facilities where 10 or fewer people normally work or two or fewer of one sex, with privacy; hand washing with soap and clean water at each toilet; a plentiful drinking water supply separate from toilets; toilets and showers not used for storage; and psychosocial risks including sexual and gender-based harassment managed in how facilities are provided. Table 6 gives worked examples for residential, commercial and civil projects.
