Section 5: claims handling, investigations and decisions – Australia Life Insurance Code of Practice (CALI Life Code)

Australia Life Insurance Code of Practice (CALI Life Code) 5.63-5.65: Pay ongoing income benefits on time, warn of late payment, and do not withhold during non-disclosure investigations without evidence

What does 5.63-5.65 require?

Ongoing income benefits are paid by the later of the due date or five business days after the insurer has what it reasonably needs to decide to pay; a foreseeable late payment is notified within five business days of discovery. During an investigation into non-disclosure, misrepresentation or the duty to take reasonable care, income payments are not stopped or withheld unless the insurer reasonably believes it holds evidence that will lead to the claim being declined or the policy cancelled or avoided.
