Before an interview the claimant receives a key information sheet covering the summary they will get, the right to a representative or support person, their rights and responsibilities, contact details, confirmation that any interviewer acts for the insurer, the right to decline audio recording and to a free copy if recorded, and how to complain. The interviewer opens by stating who they are, the purpose, duration and scope, and that they act for the insurer. Interviews are respectful, last no more than ninety minutes without written agreement and a stated reason, include a five-minute break at least every thirty minutes, and end at once if a needed support person or interpreter is absent. Interviewers may not allege fraud without the insurer's authority. A further interview must be reasonably needed, not within 24 hours without agreement, explained, and preceded by an offer of the earlier summary or recording. A claim withdrawn after an interview triggers contact from someone other than the interviewer to discuss reasons and offer to restart.
