Junior employees must be paid the age-based percentage of the adult rate in Table 5 (or Table 6 for junior office employees) of the current award (consolidated to 1 July 2026, read 30 September 2026). An employee under 18 must not be required to work more than 10 hours in a shift. Where the law permits juniors to work in bars, junior liquor service employees must be paid the adult rate for the classification of the work. If the employer demands a birth certificate as proof of age it must pay for obtaining it.
