A part-time employee who has regularly worked ordinary hours above their guaranteed hours for at least 12 months may ask in writing for an increase; if agreed, the agreement must be varied in writing before the change occurs; the employer may refuse only on reasonable business grounds and must notify the refusal and grounds in writing. An employee with a genuine and ongoing change in personal circumstances may alter their availability on 14 days' written notice; if the employer cannot reasonably accommodate it, the guaranteed hours cease to apply and new guaranteed hours must be agreed.
