Where a risk assessment requires a safety observer, work must not proceed without one. The safety observer must warn of dangers such as inadvertent contact and stop the work if necessary; do no other task that compromises observation; communicate quickly and clearly with the workers; be proficient in electrical rescue and CPR; wear the correct PPE; have no known disability that would impair the role; be present as an electrical safety control when work is done on energized circuits and equipment; and keep a rescue kit suited to the task close at hand.
