A fall-arrest system must be made of mutually compatible items, so that connections carry negligible risk of release through: loading a connector gate not designed to be loaded; loading that lets the locking device be knocked or pushed open; lack of free movement between mating parts causing jamming and unintended loading; or a connector being badly worn away where it bears on another part, such as the inner face of an anchor eye (Figure 2.2 shows typical anchorage connection problems). Personal equipment should be chosen so an operator can move from one shared system to another while never unprotected.
