Section 2: General requirements for selection and safe use – AS/NZS 1891.4:2009 Industrial Fall-Arrest Systems and Devices - Selection, Use and Maintenance

AS/NZS 1891.4:2009 Industrial Fall-Arrest Systems and Devices - Selection, Use and Maintenance 2.1.2: 2.1.2 Effects on the wearer: full-body harness and 6 kN maximum force

Whatever the system, a full-body harness must be worn if a free fall of more than 600 mm is likely, and systems must be selected and assembled so the maximum force on the wearer's harness in a fall is 6 kN. Equipment should give as much comfort and freedom of movement as safety allows and the best protection against striking the ground, objects or structures, injury from the harness itself and falling out of it. Potential users should try equipment on, including a suspended trial with care taken for the onset of suspension intolerance.
