What is a reportable incident (the Act s 16 and Rules Part 7) – Aged Care Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) Provider Guidance

Aged Care Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) Provider Guidance rep-scope: Recognise a reportable incident: eight types, including alleged and suspected

A reportable incident is one of eight types that occurred, is alleged or is suspected in connection with delivering funded aged care services to an individual: unreasonable use of force, unlawful sexual contact or inappropriate sexual conduct, psychological or emotional abuse, unexpected death, stealing or financial coercion by an aged care worker, neglect, inappropriate use of a restrictive practice, and unexplained absence. Alleged and suspected incidents are reportable without waiting for proof, including where an inquiry or police investigation is under way, where the person does not want it reported, where the individual has a cognitive impairment and where another resident is involved. Other incidents are managed in the system but not reported.
