Aged Care Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) Provider Guidance rep-absence: Report unexplained absence in one combined type

Unexplained absence means an individual is absent from an approved residential care home, or from the home or community setting during delivery of services, in circumstances where there are reasonable grounds to report the absence to police. From 1 November 2025 the old 'missing consumer' type in home services and 'unexplained absence' in residential care are one type. A person who returns before the provider knows they were missing is not notified unless police were involved, but the event is recorded and the care plan updated.
