Employers and self-employed persons must ensure confined space entry and exit openings are large enough to allow any person to be rescued and are free of fittings or plant that could hinder rescue, or, if not reasonably practicable, provide an alternative means of entry and exit for rescue. Risks from any alternative means must be eliminated or, if not reasonably practicable, reduced as far as reasonably practicable (ss 21, 23, 24).
